Majestic Kalk Bay

Owing to its size, Kalk Bay has long eluded property hunters. Set on the sliver of land between Boyes Drive and the Simon’s Town railway line, the False Bay harbour town consistently attracts buyers who tend not to sell. Properties trickle onto the market are often snatched up through word-of-mouth channels. A property development by the name of Majestic Village, however, has opened doors to a new host of Kalk Bay buyers. The project, marketed by Pam Golding Properties, recently hit the R55 million sales mark. They’re also boasting R18 million in reservations and a record R7.1 million sale.

Majestic Village is a landmark development that has tied together a handful of existing Kalk Bay properties. These include restored historic buildings, residences, row houses, and modern loft apartments. Much of the development’s construction has already been completed, including 18 units in the New Kings Hotel, 14 in the old Majestic Hotel, and four loft apartments. They’re hoping to have the rest of the residential units done by the end of the year.

A property complex, Majestic Village offers exclusive recreational facilities. Developers are particularly proud of the Munnik Spa. Named after the project’s founding architect, the late Mike Munnik, the spa is located in what was once the ballroom of the Majestic Hotel. In addition to a swimming pool, sauna, and steam room, the centre will provide gym equipment and treatments and offer yoga and Pilates classes. Security isn’t taken lightly with alarm systems, surveillance cameras, and 24-hour guards. There’s also an on-site manager and laundry and domestic worker services.

One of the most compelling aspects of Majestic Village is the laid-back lifestyle of Kalk Bay itself. With arts and crafts, antiques, cosy cafés, and trendy restaurants, Kalk Bay has a friendly local community and a dedicated flow of weekend visitors. Majestic Village will add to Kalk Bay’s charms with a coffee deli, a Winesence store, and a bookshop owned by former Fair Lady editor Ann Donald. We’re not surprised by the response to the development,” says Mick Joyce, managing director of Pam Golding Properties in the Western Cape, “and expect the remaining units to be snapped up quickly.”
